Why Validate?
Validating scans is highly important because it allows you to obtain the best possible data. Fit3D's scans are highly accurate, but there are several factors that could cause issues. Walking through this scan will allow you to identify some of the factors that might lead to an improper scan.
There are three possible outcomes after taking the survey—valid, improper (shown), and improper (hidden). Valid scans are displayed throughout the entire website and will be included in all measurements tables and graphs. If your result from the survey is an improper scan, the scan and data will still be displayed. However, the results may be inaccurate and may skew certain data trends and averages. It is highly advised for users to exclude their scans to obtain the best results. Showing or hiding your scans can be easily done at the scan history page. If you run through the survey successfully, the scan will automatically be registered as valid and will be shown throughout the app. Standing still and having consistent body positions while taking scans will get you consistent measurements.
Questions
1) Are you wearing pants/shorts? Are they tight fitting down to the ankles?

Measurements are based on the surface of the body. Wearing loose or baggy pants and shorts when scanning can adversely affect scan results. Wearing no clothes on the lower body is ideal; however wearing tight fitting clothing will still produce good results.
2) Is your neck clear of your hair and/or shirt collar?

Measurements are based on the surface of the body. The algorithm Fit3D uses needs to be able to accurately see the whole neck in order to provide the best measurements. Potential hindrances could include (but are not limited to) hair, collars, and large beards.
3) Are you wearing a shirt/tank top? Is it tight to your body with no wrinkles?

Measurements are based on the surface of the body. Wearing loose or baggy pants and shorts when scanning can adversely affect scan results. Wearing no clothes on the upper body is ideal; however wearing tight fitting clothing will still produce good results.
4) Are your arms straight?

When Fit3D calculates the measurements, the algorithm expects the arms to be straight. Being still and having the arms consistently extended and straight down will produce the best measurements.
5) Did you keep your head still during the scan?

Excessive movement in the scan can cause measurements to inflate. You should be able to see clear facial features with a good scan. Being still and having the head still with the chin up will produce the best measurements.
6) Did you remove your shoes and socks?

Keeping shoes or socks and can change the lower body volume and shape and may ultimately affect your results. Some data that might be affected include trunk to leg volume ratio and body shape rating.
For your reference, scan validity is a self reported status. By default a scan will be listed as Invalid, unless updated through the questionnaire.
